Action of generator clutch wheel

The function of the generator clutch wheel is to transmit the torque of the armature to the flywheel ring gear through the starting gear, and the power of the motor can be transmitted to the crankshaft to start the diesel engine. After starting, the motor and the diesel engine are automatically separated to protect the starting motor from damage. Clutch mechanism mainly includes spring type and friction plate type. The clutch mechanism of the starter of medium and small power diesel engines is mostly spring type, and the clutch mechanism of the starter of high power diesel engines is mostly friction plate type.

Operating principle of clutch wheel

The driving part and the driven part of the clutch take advantage of the friction between the contact surfaces, or use the liquid as the transmission medium hydraulic coupling, or use the magnetic transmission electromagnetic clutch to transmit the torque, so that the two parts can be temporarily separated and gradually connected, and the two parts are allowed to rotate each other in the transmission process.

After the engine is started in the separated state, the flywheel drives the drive gear to rotate. Because the flywheel will drive the drive gear to rotate at a high speed, and the speed is much higher than that of the armature, it can be considered that the flywheel is active and the armature shaft is passive, that is, the drive gear is active and the outer race is passive.
