After thousands of years of development and evolution, Chinese folk art has a long history and rich connotation. It seems to have become one of China's cultural treasures. As an important part of handicraft art, it bears witness to the wisdom of the ancient people, condenses their efforts, and has high cultural value. Therefore, as Chinese children, we must understand these handicrafts in order to make them glow with new vitality and continue to pass on.

The handicrafts inherited in China are diverse and rich in forms. Finally, the most typical are paper cutting, wood carving, embroidery, ceramics and so on. And paper cutting is the most popular handicraft art that we have the most contact with in our life. The history of paper-cut art can be traced back to the invention of paper. There have been paper-cut works since about the sixth century A.D. In the Han and Tang Dynasties, folk women would cut colored silk and gold foil into ornaments and paste them on their forehead and temples for decoration. With the further development of paper-cut art, during the festival, people will also cut some beautiful and auspicious shapes and paste them on doors and windows as decoration. Paper cutting enriches people's spiritual life. At the same time, it is universal and practical, so it can be widely spread and inherited from generation to generation.

Wood carving

Wood carving is also a broad and profound handicraft art in China. The earliest wood carving works were unearthed in Hemudu site. In the Shang and Zhou dynasties, wood carving has been regarded as one of the "six workers" and "eight talents", and has become a process of national management. At that time, wood carvings were mostly ritual vessels. Until the Warring States period, wood carvings had been more vigorously developed, and their application scope was greatly expanded. They could be applied to architecture, ritual offerings, wooden figurines and other aspects. Then, after continuous evolution, the influence of wood carving is also expanding day by day. The existence of wood carving technology can be seen in all aspects of life, including wood carving spoon, wood comb, pendant and so on.

Embroidery has been used for nearly 3000 years. It is one of the folk crafts employed in China and an important part of the ancient "needlework". In the Tang and Song Dynasties, embroidery has developed dozens of stitches and formed major embroidery schools with distinct styles, among which Suzhou embroidery, Guangdong embroidery, Shu embroidery and Xiang embroidery are the most distinctive four categories. Embroidery is not only applied to the decoration of clothing, but also used in embroidery calligraphy and painting, Buddhist scriptures and other aspects.

Today, with the high development of human civilization, looking back on the past history, we will find that our ancestors have long left us gorgeous cultural treasures. Therefore, we should shoulder the responsibility of inheriting these cultures and arts. Only in this way can we continuously inherit the essence of Chinese culture and keep our national foundation.
